Practice Description
Joseph E. Reed joined Christie, Parker, and Hale in 2010. Prior to that time Mr. Reed was a patent attorney with Baker & McKenzie where his practice focused on patent prosecution, patent litigation, and licensing. Mr. Reed previously served as a law clerk in the General Counsel's Office at the U.S. International Trade Commission where his practice focused on §337 investigations.
Prior to joining the legal profession, Mr. Reed worked as a software engineer in the telecommunications industry. He was responsible for design, development, and support for telecommunication base stations. He has also worked as a web systems engineer with companies in the internet and telecommunications industries where he was responsible for extensive software and database development.
Patent Prosecution
Mr. Reed has handled patent application work in diverse technologies, including organic light emitting diode displays, electron emission devices, computer and telecommunications equipment and networks, semiconductor memory devices, semiconductor manufacturing techniques, advanced software and business methods, internet-related systems, radio frequency identification ("RFID") tags and systems, optical devices, MRI systems, and radiation treatment systems.
Representative Litigation Cases
- Acted for a multifocal optics designer in a breach of license action brought in California against a large contact lens manufacturer. Case is currently pending.
- Acted for an RFID manufacturer in a patent infringement action brought in California. Case settled on favorable terms.
