FORMER MANAGING PARTNER’S CITY COUNCIL CANDIDACY
IN SAN MARINO

PASADENA, CALIF. (February 19, 2009) — Christie, Parker & Hale, LLP, a leading Southern California intellectual property law firm, said today that former managing partner Richard J. Ward, Jr., is seeking election to the City Council in San Marino, where he is a long-time resident.

"Dick Ward’s candidacy takes the tradition of community service at our firm to the next level by running for public office in San Marino, where he has lived for more than four decades," said Gregory Lampert, managing partner. "The legal acumen, leadership and consensus-building skills Dick demonstrated both as a member of the firm and past presiding partner would serve him well in city government."

Presently Of Counsel to CPH, where he has been affiliated since 1964, Ward said his campaign for the city council will give the highest priority to monitoring San Marino’s revenues and expenses to assure its financial stability. "These days we must keep the budget balanced, avoid shortfalls and the need to dip into our reserves," he stated. "It is critical to maintain a sound financial position, protect public safety and paramedic services, and upgrade the community’s infrastructure."

Ward holds a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from St. Louis University and a J.D. degree from the USC Gould School of Law. His law practice has involved counseling and prosecution in the field of intellectual property litigation. He was named Lawyer of the Year in 2005 by the Pasadena Bar Association.

Ward has served as president and a trustee of the San Marino Schools Foundation, president and director of the San Marino City Club, president and director of the San Marino National Little League, board member of the San Marino Library Foundation, and co-chair of two local public safety campaigns. He and his wife Ann Salvaty Ward have five children: Beth, Katie, Megan, Peter and Tom.
